Columbus rules

What Columbus short-term-rental owners need to arrange

Columbus requires a valid permit before a host offers, lists, advertises or markets a qualifying dwelling for a stay under 30 consecutive days. The city code also assigns each approved dwelling a permit account number for its hosting-platform listing.

Permit before listingA dwelling with five guestrooms or less needs a valid Columbus short-term-rental permit before it is offered, listed, advertised or marketed for stays under 30 consecutive days.
List the permit accountEach approved dwelling receives an individual permit account number, which the host must list with the dwelling on any hosting platform.
City lodging excise taxChapter 371 states a combined 5.1% hotel-motel-short-term-rental excise tax, collected when the lodging is furnished.
Check the addressThese rules describe the City of Columbus. An address outside city limits may follow a different municipal or county process, so confirm the jurisdiction before applying.

Why we price your home, not the market

Columbus neighborhoods give guests different reasons to choose one home over another, so our estimate begins with the address and the setting around it. We study nearby homes and the stay your property can offer before we discuss a plan.

We review comparable rentals by hand, including the home, its setting, and its guest-facing amenities. We look for homes that help explain the choices an owner faces in that part of Columbus. The estimate follows this review rather than a broad market summary.

Bring the address, bedroom count and your questions about the home to the conversation. Together we can go through the comparison and what it means for your Columbus listing.
